A senior police officer said the government has decided to ban mobile Internet services from Thursday midnight in wake of the Joint Resistance Leadership’s protest calendar. “All mobile operators have been asked to close the mobile internet from Thursday late evening as part of a security measure,” he said. “The directions are valid till further orders which means services will remain snapped for an indefinite period.” A source however said that Internet will remain off from July 6 evening to July 13 evening. “In between, it may be resumed for a day or two, if all goes well,” he said. The broadband services will not be barred, the source said. On July 11, the JRL has asked people of Kashmir to launch an online campaign about Kashmir issue to “wake up” the world community about the human rights violations in Kashmir. Meanwhile, the government has decided to keep a close watch on the situation in Downtown and accordingly impose curfew.
