Three militants escaped the cordon following protests by locals in Soaf village of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday. A source said that government forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the native village of Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Bashir Lashkari following inputs about the presence of at least three militants.
However, people took to streets and staged massive protests. “The militants taking advantage of the protests escaped the cordon,” he said. The source couldn’t confirm whther Bashir was among the militants who managed to give slip to the forces. Police believe Bashir led the group of militants who ambushed a police party earlier this month, leaving six policemen dead.
